Thesis statement
International Business Machines, or IBM, is perhaps the most famous of all computer companies. Even though this company was founded in the 1920s, all of IBM was affected by the invention of the personal computer, or PC, in the 1960s and 70s. In fact, most western cultures, such as the United States, Canada, Europe, and Australia, were affected by the PC soon after its invention. But what is the relationship between IBM and the PC? After Apple successfully marketed its own PCs in the late 1970s, top IBM executives met with Bill Lowe, a lab director in one of IBM’s facilities in Florida, and challenged him to build a small, new computer within a year. Lowe did the task, and the IBM PC was unveiled in New York’s Waldorf Astoria ballroom in 1981. I can prove this by going to multiple sources, including books on the history of computers. If you visit the IBM Archives official website and click the link to the IBM PC, the page tells you a lot that I’ve said here.
